How to spend quality time with mini meeeeee
PARENTING UNPLUGGED

They say parenting keeps you on your toes— but honestly, it feels more like juggling flaming torches while riding a unicycle. But is it actually the kids who are keeping you exhausted and overwhelmed or is it the overthinking mind of yours?
We continuously judge ourselves on the parenting parameters and invisible scorecards not just from family or friends, but from the Supreme Court of Social Media Parenting, where every post looks like a Pinterest-perfect childhood.
To achieve the notion of perfection at every stage of parenting tired me was exploring yet another activity to engage my 10-year-old — until it hit me: maybe the point isn’t to impress anyone, but to laugh with my kid. The activities don’t have to perfect (well they are never actually) or perfectly executed but what matters is the giggles, the eye-rolls, and the memories we’re making together. Because in the end, parenting isn’t about perfection — it’s about connection.
Below are some activities I finally did with my girl which honestly, I enjoyed so much.
Playlist Battles – Here comes to play the millennial mom with her 90’s song playlist, equally countered by trending KPOP demon hunter tracks. She introduced me with trending tracks and I made her laugh with my 90’s songs. We also extended this to be Dance off session with groovy moves from both eras.
Make Pom Pom Flowers – DIY crafts have never been by my forte. I admitted my weakness bravely to my daughter. So, we both decided to learn something new. Pom Pom flower making was messy, colorful and full of laughter. The best part was I was not the “mom in charge” and she guided me patiently while I was fumbling with yarns. Our fluffy blooms may not be Pinterest perfect but they are our priceless possessions, our perfect memories.
Silly Sagas – All it took was imagination to spun tales like how mom saved the world with coffee or daughter defeated aliens by her dance moves. The stories grew wilder and when we thought it couldn’t get sillier, the big brother and dad jumped in. Our living room was echoing with laughter and epic tales of ridiculous heroes.
Diary writing about future – I read about this activity somewhere and implemented it. It turned out to be quite interesting. It is like we are Time travelling to future with our pens. Write a diary entry as if we are living in 2050. Use your imagination to define how the days go. What gadgets and technologies we are using. Imaging if all my job is done by AI then what am I doing 😊. The real magic happened when we compared our entries—two different visions of tomorrow. Mine was more on cooking robots and Fashion trends in 2050 but her were totally hilarious thoughts like school in sky and alien neighbours.
Learn Yoga Moves together – Though I know Yoga but we became YouTube learners of various Yoga poses like Tree pose, downward dog and many more while wobbling, giggling and flaunting our matching new maroon yoga mats. We challenged each other a bit in stretches and calmed our nerves with breathing exercises. With Yoga flows it was not just we connected with our bodies but also with each other.
Room cleaning Competition – This had a selfish agenda of mine to finish the household chores quickly 😊. With Alexa as our referee, we set the timer and each picked a room to conquer. Cleaning turned to be a race, with dusting, folding and tidying up the space with full speed. The dreaded task suddenly became thrilling and surprisingly sparkling rooms. The sweetest Ice cream awaited the winner but the sweetest memories were for both of us.
Coffee Date with Poetic twist - Aesthetic cafes aren't just mom favorites; daughters love them too. So why not plan a coffee date with your daughter but with a creative bent. We googled for a fancy cafe nearby and went together nicely dressed up. While I sipped my Latte, I asked her to write a poem on the nature or cafe vibe. The reward ? Round of beautiful selfies and yum chocolate shake. This became quite me time(slightly) and creative play for her with sweet indulgence.
There can be many more such activities like Baking a bread loaf together ( which I am planning for next weekend) or how to fold different types of paper planes or putting together scavenger hunt.
At the end of the day, it is not about just engaging children but building connections. Parenting isn’t about making grand plans but making everyday moments into adventures. Don’t worry about the mess and the outcomes – focus on laughter and giggles. Because one day, when they look back, it won’t be about perfect activities their parents did, but about the imperfect silly sagas, the out of shape pom‑pom flowers, the yoga wobbles, and the ice cream victories. And those are the stories worth telling.
